It’s safe to say that stone dials have been having a resurgence in recent years, and I’m certainly not mad about it. This 1970s flair brings together some of my favorite aspects of watchmaking: color, craft, creativity, and let’s be honest, a little fun.

One of the oldest brands in the industry, Bovet has been in continuous operation for over two centuries. In that time, the Maison has been no stranger to innovation, both technical and artistic. So, I was pretty surprised to learn Bovet doesn’t have much history in the way of stone dials – until now.

Enter the two newest versions of the brand’s popular Récital 12.

The Récital 12 with Unique Stone Dials

These two models prove that you can, in fact, teach an old dog new tricks. Even with a history spanning more than 200 years, Bovet continues to push the bounds of its own capabilities and watchmaking as a whole.

Let’s start with the 40mm Récital 12, which debuted only a year ago in 2024. The model marked the Maison’s first bracelet watch, and Bovet knocked it out of the park – our own founder, Marco Gabella, called it “a triumph of ergonomics.”

Placing function at the forefront, the brand opted to render the bracelet in lightweight and supple titanium. This choice ensured perfect comfort and fit thanks to the articulation between links as well as the discreet (and highly useful) expansion mechanism hidden in the folding clasp.

On the Récital 12, form follows function with an equally beautiful combination of matte-brushed and polished finishes that perfectly complement the case and give the illusion of an integrated bracelet. The latest additions with stone dials in tiger’s eye and malachite lean further into the form, placing style front and center.

The choice of these two particular semi-precious stones draws from the forest-covered Jura Mountains around the Bovet castle. The rich green tone of malachite echoes the lush treetops, while the warm golden brown of the tiger’s eye reflects the earth below. Both stones offer organic variation in color and pattern, making each dial entirely unique.

If you want to push the elements of craft and playfulness a bit further (and you know I do), your resident, self-proclaimed astrology girl is here to share the deeper meaning behind these stones.

Malachite is the “Stone of Transformation,” symbolizing change and emotional healing. Alternatively, tiger’s eye has long been a talisman for protection, willpower, and courage, often carried to ward off misfortune and to bring good luck.

So, should you find yourself looking for a bit of good energy or simply just a good conversation piece, let the stones of the new Récital 12 watches be your guide.
