Fall Colors: NOMOS Glashütte Introduces Three New Autumnal Dials To Its Club Sport Collection
The German brand’s Club Sport neomatik gets earthy dial tones and a new sweet-spot 39.5mm-diameter case.
While German watchmaker NOMOS Glashütte is justifiably proud of its “Made In Glashütte” designation, let’s take a minute to recognize the work of the brand’s Berlin-based Berlinerblau design house.
NOMOS is well known for its crisp and clean aesthetic and a major part of its signature look is the color and finish of its dials. It is in its Berlin studio that the team experiments and considers every potential surface.
We’ve visited the Berlinerblau design house and seen the drawers full of dial tests. The amount of effort that goes into executing the perfect colorway rivals the work of their watchmaking counterparts in Glashütte.
With the new NOMOS Glashütte Club Sport neomatik 39, NOMOS’ dial designers have stepped up to the design plate once again by introducing a trio of new dial colors using a rich palette of gold, bronze and copper. These three faces not only complement each other, but their autumnal hues are also meant to represent an emotional growth for collectors, projecting a sense of maturity and accomplishment.
All Things Considered
The newest members of the NOMOS Club Sport neomatik come in shades called Tabac, Ember, and Smoke. Each dial features a galvanized surface with sunburst polishing.
Our first feeling upon seeing these watches was of nostalgia. The smokey surfaces evoke memories of the smell of burning leaves hanging in the autumn air. If you had a beloved pipe-smoking grandparent, the allegory to tobacco, ash embers, and smoke is even more comforting. And the earthy tones and sunburst effects remind us of vintage 1970s watch styling (without feeling retro).
Combined with the cool and casual Club Sport stainless-steel case, these new colorways project the essence of what we thought being a fully functional adult would look and feel like when we were kids.
Taking Measurements
It’s not just the dial that makes these timepieces feel so self-assured. Not only does NOMOS know how to finely tune the emotional response to a watch through its hue, but the bipartite case of these new models of the Club Sport has a new diameter of 39.5mm (following on from 37mm and 42mm Club Sport offerings). NOMOS assures us its 30-bar water resistance is suitable for diving.
Another signature of the Club Sport is the way the integrated stainless-steel bracelet connects the wearer with the watch. This Club Sport bracelet has been refined in the last few years to make it feel more comfortable and better proportioned on a wider range of wrist sizes.
Anywhere, Anytime
To complete the feeling of confidence, the hands are rhodium-plated, with a Super-LumiNova inlay in white so you can easily read the display anywhere, anytime.
The time-only indications are powered by NOMOS’ in-house automatic DUW 3001 Neomatik caliber – equipped with the brand’s proprietary “swing system” escapement – and is on show on models boasting a transparent display back (a solid caseback is equally an option.)
The NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 39 Tabac, Ember, and Smoke are all available now, priced at $3,700 with sapphire display back, and $3,310 with solid steel caseback.
