Double Threat: Armin Strom’s New Gravity Equal Force Ultimate Sapphire Rose Gold and Blue
Form and function collide in perfect harmony with these two handsome new additions to Armin Strom’s tech-savvy Gravity Equal Force line.
A bit of the strong, silent type, Armin Strom quietly became an integrated manufacture in 2009. This move marked a significant shift for the brand, enabling it to design, develop, and produce components in-house. Fast-forward ten years, and Armin Strom has been making good use of its capabilities, creating innovative new watches, from its Mirrored Force Resonance concept, which debuted in 2016, to the Gravity Equal Force, first launched in 2019.
Today, we get the second iteration of Armin Strom’s latest evolution of the Gravity Equal Force, which features the world’s first automatic movement to have a stop-work declutch mechanism combined with a Geneva cross inside the barrel controlling torque delivery to ensure equal force is supplied to the regulating organ from start to finish, and resulting in supreme chronometric consistency.
That was a mouthful, but we promise to break down these two gorgeous new 41mm timepieces in a way that is a bit more digestible.
Mechanics First. Always.
Armin Strom stays true to its “mechanics first” philosophy with the new Gravity Equal Force Ultimate Sapphire Rose Gold, released June 18th, and the Gravity Equal Force Ultimate Sapphire Blue, released today.
Powered by the brand’s patented Calibre ASB19 movement, this movement’s unique architecture is put on full display on the dial because, at Armin Strom, mechanics are not just first, they are front and center. And, yes, this has become another signature of the brand.
Its technical innovation extends to its trademark aesthetics, where all components – visible or invisible – are meticulously hand-finished. For instance, on each of these new pieces, the three distinct bridges visible on the dial are beveled and straight-grained by hand.
Meanwhile, the mainplate is decorated with a “grain d’orge” guilloche pattern, precisely cut using a traditional hand-operated guilloche machine (more on this later). Additionally, black-polished screws (along with decorative techniques such as perlage, Geneva stripes, and circular brushing), are visible throughout the movement giving it its own visual identity.
Beauty from the Inside Out
Speaking of visual identity, Armin Strom’s attention to the mechanics of it all does not, in any way, come at the expense of a handsome watch. Case in point, the most significant update these two pieces bring to the Gravity Equal Force line is the new design language, leaning further into its luxury with new color palettes and a touch of artistic craft as a cherry on top.
Who better to tap than the talented, independent, master watchmaker Kari Voutilainen to create the stunning guilloche mainplate for these designs?
More specifically, the Sapphire Rose Gold iteration doubles down on elegance with a rich color palette, complementing its metallic chocolate brown mainplate with the warm, rosy hue of the precious metal. Meanwhile, the Sapphire Blue variation keeps to a cooler, more chromatic color palette for an icier appearance.
