Chronoswiss Enters Modern Mode with the New Pulse One

Unveiled today, the Lucerne-based watchmaker takes a definitive step into the future with new materials and a refreshed design approach while still incorporating the brand’s familiar DNA.

Independent brand Chronoswiss has gained a good portion of its appeal by producing exacting regulators, which pull the time-keeping chores of hours, minutes, and seconds onto separate dials.

Usually, these dials are in a figure-8-like configuration, but an oversized onion crown is another tell-tale differentiating detail the watchmaker has relied on over the years.

Still, the brand’s tagline is “Modern Mechanical.” As such, recent releases have certainly leaned into stunning use of unexpected color and hyperbolic metaphor to communicate the “modern” part of that equation.

So, while fans of the brand will find those two boxes ticked on the new Pulse One, which debuted today, pretty much everything else represents a bold next chapter. That is because, in the new Pulse One, we see a modern message that is not necessarily restrained, exactly, but it is more focused on presenting a regulator as a modern sports watch.

The Details of Today

One easy-to-tell design example to point out is the Chronoswiss-typical onion crown. Yes, the Pulse One has one, but it also has some elegant sloping crown protection above and below.

It is a relatively minor detail, to be sure, but it speaks volumes about the Pulse One’s intent. Frankly, I don’t recall seeing many, if any, protected onion crowns (which are generally associated with classically styled pilot watches) out there.

The figure-8 regulator dial also receives some dynamic, modern tweaks. A simplified, single-hand hour dial sits offset towards 12 o’clock to form the top of the “8.” Meanwhile, a large circular retrograde “jumping” seconds indicator forms the bottom of the eight, and dramatically so.

Finally, a long central hand ticks off the minutes along an outer chapter ring that is framed by the watch’s bezel, which, in another telling sporty detail, is knurled.

Material and More

However, the most forward-thinking aspects of the Pulse One center on the timepiece’s material and bracelet. Both the 41mm case and integrated link bracelet are constructed from durable, lightweight Grade 5 titanium that has been satin-finished and sand-blasted but still carries that metal’s distinctive color presentation.

More importantly, the case and bracelet represent a completely new design for the brand: sleeker, sportier, and bolder than previous versions of its more classically influenced regulator timepieces. The integrated bracelet, in particular, is uncannily fluid, with a link array that could be described as both futuristic and technical and almost overlap.

Two variations of the Pulse One are offered: One has a deep blue dial, which might be preferred by those who want a bit more classicism with their cutting edge. Meanwhile, the other has a bold, warm, radiating sand-blasted sand-colored dial that is more edgily handsome.

Modern Family

Powered by an open-worked (almost peripheral) rotor-equipped ruthenium-plated manufacture Caliber C.6001 movement (with a 55-hour power reserve) visible via the case back, both dial executions of the Chronoswiss Pulse One represent a new family for the watchmaker. As such, the timepiece is offered in a limited edition of 100 examples of each color.
