Adventure Time: A First Look At The NORQAIN Adventure NEVEREST GMT 41mm

The young upstart brand is taking on the world with a new travel watch.

Watches and adventure go hand in hand. Who doesn’t imagine exploring the ocean depths when trying on a diver? And it’s almost impossible to not pretend you're Steve McQueen when you strap on a chronograph.

Of course, none of these exploits are really possible without travel. Wanderlust has been on our collective consciousness after months of lockdown. NORQAIN is a brand that has a handle on the zeitgeist and knows that enthusiasts are bursting to see the world. For those fans, we welcome three new Adventure NEVEREST GMT 41mm editions.

Three’s Times the Charm

Mountaineering is another outdoor endeavor that is forever linked with watchmaking (must be all those Swiss peaks). After adding the NEVEREST sub-collection to their Adventure family in August, NORQAIN is sensing that buyers are ready for more high-altitude experiences.

The Adventure NEVEREST GMT edition is made up of three 41mm models that are ready to deliver. There are two stainless steel variations: one polished and one with a satined finish. Both feature a black dial with the signature NORQAIN pattern and 3 o’clock date window. Both also have a satined stainless steel bi-directional rotating bezel with a ceramic ring.

The time in a second time zone is easily legible with a 24-hour scale — half of which is highlighted in one of two colors — around the central GMT hand and X1 Super-LumiNova on all indices and hands. Each variation makes a strong design statement, but the wearer can further display their tastes by choosing either royal blue or forest green details (a good way to ease into the green watch trend without going all-in).

Adventure NEVEREST GMT 41mm DLC

The third look in the Adventure NEVEREST GMT series features DLC coating on the polished and satin-finished stainless steel case, bi-directional rotating bezel, lugs, and screwed-down crown.

Again, the dial projects the real personality of the Adventure NEVEREST GMT. This particular model’s semicircle is highlighted in sunset orange, to indicate the night-time hours of the 24-hour GMT scale. The central GMT hand also has an orange tip. This 41mm model is presented on a DLC stainless steel bracelet, striped flex fabric strap, or rubber NATO strap.

Time for Firsts

Each of these three versions comes with a few firsts for NORQAIN. The timepieces are available with a stainless steel bracelet, a fabric strap, or a black NATO strap. This is the first NATO strap in Norqain’s entire collection. It is formed of a hardy, water-resistant, vegan-certified rubber, made by BIWI, a Swiss industry leader known for its innovative vegan-certified products.

These Adventure NEVEREST GMTs are also the first timepieces in the Adventure collection to be fitted with the high-performance Manufacture Calibre NN20/2 developed with movement manufacturer Kenissi. The jumping hour Manufacture Calibre NN20/2 is COSC-certified and features a “weekend-proof” 70-hour power reserve. The sturdy construction featuring a traversing bridge with two-point fixation ensures the timekeeping performance will not be hindered by powerful activity.

Rising to the Top

NORQAIN is reading the room by making sure these GMT timepieces are making a social impact as well. With every Adventure NEVEREST GMT timepiece sold (including the models launched in August 2021), buyers will help NORQAIN contribute to the Butterfly Help Project, an initiative that helps change the lives of children in Nepal. This organization, created by Norbu Sherpa and Andrea Sherpa-Zimmermann of Wild Yak Expeditions, helps the families of Sherpas who have lost their lives in the Himalayan mountains and provides their children access to education. Not only will the Adventure NEVEREST GMT take you to new heights, but you will have a hand in helping children rise to the top.

The NORQAIN Adventure NEVEREST GMT 41mm lands in stores on September 22 and is priced at $3,900 for the steel bracelet, $3,760 for the NATO rubber strap, and $3690 for the rubber or flex fabric strap. The DLC-coated iteration is priced at $4,500 for the steel on steel combo, $4,190 for the NATO rubber strap, $4,120 for the rubber strap, and $4,100 for the flex fabric strap.
