Make no mistake about it, the rubber wristwatch is popular, as illustrated by the impressive amount of watchmaking brands proposing this accessory for their more sportive collections, or even for more classical ranges.

If wearing this material is very pleasant and particularly suitable for a hot and humid environment, its utilisation is not always adapted to the original design of the watch. Very often, the rubber wristwatch is designed as an accessory and has difficulty to integrate the whole. Let’s also talk about the price, which may be prohibitive for a polymer whose value certainly varies according to the quality but certainly not to reach rates comparable to those of a quality leather strap.

You must surely have noticed that I am no big fan of rubber and that I will rarely favourably consider watch models using this material for the strap. It thus without any particular expectation that I discovered the new range of rubber wristwatches designed by JEANRICHARD for its Terrascope, Aquascope and Aeroscope collections.

A true added value in terms of comfort and design

As soon as it is held, the utilised rubber turns out to be of great quality. The material is pleasant to the touch and does not have this gummy or even gluing feel, which can be found on certain down market wristwatches.

The exterior surface is slightly streaked which gives relief to the strap and contrast to the colours. The resulting effect is very successful and this original texture enables happy lighting effects. It is also to be noted that the brand’s (JR) logo signature is discreetly integrated as a watermark.

However, the most important fact is that these rubber straps perfectly adapt to the singular design of the cushion case from the Terrascope, Aquascope and Aeroscope collections.

On one hand, the strap’s streaks echo the case’s alternation of the polished and brilliant surfaces and on the other hand, the different silicon colours make happy unions with diverse possible dial finishes.

Last but not least, the straps are sold at 99 CHF which is very reasonable given their manufacturing quality and the fact that they offer the wearer the possibility to change their watch’s look in exchange of a small fee. A nice surprise for those who like to personalise their watches’ look without getting broke !
