Break Open the Bubbly: Longines Releases New Spirit Models in 37mm

A new 37mm version of the storied Longines Spirit timepiece brings a sense of authentic aviation-inspired adventure to smaller wrists, complete with a new stunning cork-popping dial color.

Perfect balance. Clean, uncluttered design. Understated authenticity. These qualities have always been the hallmarks of the Spirit collection from the Swiss watch brand Longines. Designed to evoke the feel and purpose of a pilot’s watch, without over-doing that moniker, the Spirit collection presents a modern, stylish interpretation that nods to the watchmaker’s enviable heritage in aviation.

And now, with the new beautiful and universally appealing 37mm stainless steel execution, that heritage conjures thoughts of Amelia Earhart as much as it does Charles Lindbergh (both of whom wore Longines timepieces on their historic flights).

Flying First Class

The Spirit line’s unique combination of attitude and elegance does not lose a whit of its visual impact in this smaller version. Steel tones still harken to early aircraft fuselages, clean Arabic hour markers and simplified gauging deliver that quick-wrist glance accuracy so necessary in the cockpit, and the pronounced (but not massive) crown supplies some of the pilot’s watch DNA. However, those functional details take a back but still first-class seat to an overall sophistication and elegance appropriate for any wrist on any occasion.

The new 37mm Longines Spirit models are available in three chromatic executions. The first two are already well-established color approaches in the Spirit family: a dramatic sunray blue and a matte black. And the third is a new sunburst champagne dial, which tilts the balance of attitude and elegance decidedly in the elegance direction. A 6 o’clock date window and Longines’ traditional “5-star” calibre quality applique complete the package.

5-Star Service

The “5-star” indication grows from a heritage workshop tradition to show the overall quality of the movement right on the watch dial. As such, the 37mm Spirit’s COSC-certified L888 self-winding calibre certainly lives up to the label, offering a silicon balance spring and 72 hours of power reserve.

In addition to the expected steel bracelet option for a watch of this nature, the new 37mm Spirit models are also available on leather straps: Beige with white stitching for the champagne dial, brown with white stitching for the black dial, and blue tone-on-tone with white stitching for the blue dial.

Pricing & Availability

The new Longines Spirit 37mm timepieces are available at Longines retailers worldwide and via the brand’s website, and list for $2,150 on the beige and brown leather straps and $2,400 on the blue leather strap and steel bracelets.
