Exclusive Video: Tennis Champion Daniil Medvedev and Bovet’s Récital 30
For Bovet, the Geneva-based maker of exquisite watches, the court-dominating player is an apt spokesman. In this exclusive interview, he speaks to his discovery of the brand, his own use of timepieces, and the convenience of having a world-timer like the Récital 30 in his busy traveling life.
At 29 years old, Russian tennis pro Daniil Medvedev has already racked up some impressive milestones. In 2022, he was ranked as the world’s top men’s singles player by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and, over his career, has won 20 ATP-level singles titles (the 2021 U.S. Open and the 2020 ATP finals among them).
But how does his precision on the court translate into representing an exacting watch brand like Bovet?
“I don’t wear a watch while I play, but after a match, the ritual of putting on your timepiece can be very calming,” he told Watchonista during our interview. “If you see me wearing my Bovet after a match, it usually means I won!”
Moreover, after a recent visit to the Bovet “Castle” headquarters at the Château de Môtiers, the player gained a deeper understanding of the brand and watchmaking in general: “We learned about the impressive history of Bovet…and even tried our hand at some workshop construction.”
Did this tennis master, in fact, master the art of horology? “I wouldn’t say I mastered it, but I tried,” he said. “Bovet timepieces are a hand-made work of art.”
During the interview, Medvedev sported the Bovet Récital 30 world-timer and shared some of the watch’s impressive functions, including its unique system for handling the problems Daylight Saving Time presents on a world-timer.
“I haven’t counted how many of the time zones on the watch have tournaments, but I’ve already changed the time three times while wearing it,” Medvedev said. “It’s an important function when you travel as much as I do.”
