Best Of 2018: Our Favorite Events Of The Year

2018 was a landmark year for watch events, from Lake Como to Las Vegas, Watchonista experienced it all. Here are a few of our favorites.

By Watchonista

Watchonista was on-hand at a wide range of events in 2018. From massive exhibitions like SIHH and Baselworld, to unique experiences organized by our team. This was a very special year for events, but we’ve attempted to select our favorite moments of 2018.

Watches and Wonders

Just weeks after SIHH concluded, the FHH reconvened the press and brands (21 to be exact) in Miami’s Design District. This first-ever US edition of Watches & Wonders offered visitors the unique opportunity to experience exclusive timepieces released just weeks prior at SIHH. We also had a very special collaboration with Jaeger-LeCoultre which allowed our readers to experience the new Polaris collection in the beautiful Miami environment.

Watchonista’s COUTUREtime Evening At The Neon Museum

COUTUREtime 2018 was one for the books. With a record number of brands attending and Watchonista’s partnership, we witnessed what could be the most important horological showcase in the United States. This year gave us the unique opportunity to host arguably our favorite event of the year. To mark the official opening of the COUTUREtime show, Watchonista organized and executed a unique one-night-only event at Las Vegas’ Neon Museum. The event was such a success that people are still talking about it today.

Attending (and winning) at the Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este

Our Co-Founder Alexander Friedman has attended this important Concorso many times, but this year, things went in a slightly different way. With @ROSSOMIURA’s incredible 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV winning the top prize. We also sat down with A. Lange & Söhne CEO Wilhelm Schmid in a wide-ranging interview.

WatchTime New York

For the second year in a row, Watchonista partnered with WatchTime for their New York showcase. Occurring at the end of summer, WatchTime New York was a great opportunity to gauge the temperature of the industry, and based on the record number of brands exhibiting, we’d say the market is red hot. Our Rhonda Riche took alook back at this special weekend.

SIAR (Salón Internacional Alta Relojería México)

This fall, we headed south of the border to celebrate horology in Mexico City. Watchonista partnered with SIAR for the 2018 edition of the eponymous Latin American showcase. While we shared the very best of the show to our channels, we also had the opportunity to sit down with Founder and Organizer Carlos Alonso.
