Staycation: NOMOS Brings a Slice of Glashütte (and Novelties) to New York City
NOMOS Glashütte’s new Manhattan showroom gives you the opportunity to preview new novelties and get a taste of Germany without leaving the city.
Just before the holidays last December, NOMOS Glashütte soft-launched an exclusive new, appointment-only showroom in downtown Manhattan, where the Maison brings the savoir-faire of Glashütte (the birthplace of German watchmaking) right to New York City without the 8-hour flight.
This airy loft space, nestled in the heart of Soho, celebrates its official opening this spring with the opportunity to preview the brand’s latest novelties released at Watches and Wonders and much more.
The Lounge
I recently took a private tour of the NOMOS Lounge, guided by the brand’s International Communications Manager, Ines Hatzmannsberger, who had just touched down from Germany herself. She walked me through the space, where the playful essence of the brand shines through in every detail, from the cheeky chalkboard sign welcoming you into the lounge to the interactive 3-D map giving you the lay of the land in Glashütte.
We paused here, as Hatzmannsberger shared about the tight-knit community between NOMOS and its neighbors: A. Lange and Söhne and Glashütte Original. While Glashütte is a small town, home to roughly 7,000 people and covering only about 37 square miles in the expansive region of Saxony, it’s home to three horological giants. Yet, the Manhattan showroom, while capturing the essence of Glashütte, is a clear reflection of the unique spirit of NOMOS.
Hatzmannsberger described the magic of finding the perfect space for the lounge, which is anchored by a bold wooden staircase reminiscent of the one you’ll find at NOMOS’ facilities in Glashütte – the location was meant to be. Additional touches decorate the loft from the ground up, including the art installations hanging from the ceiling, taken directly from the brand’s German home.
Indeed, you can come here to get a history lesson on German watchmaking, all while sipping a cup of tea and eating a biscuit straight from Saxony. But let’s be real: you really want to see the watches.
Yes, you can try on as many NOMOS timepieces as your heart desires, with all the models of your choice available to experience in the metal and, of course, buy.
The Watches
Earlier this month at Watches and Wonders Geneva, the brand unveiled an exciting new collection of timepieces. In typical NOMOS fashion, the line includes a slew of bold and bright colors, bringing instant joy to the wrist. However, the latest lineup equally balances form and function with the bonus of a practical world timer function just in time for your summer vacation.
With the new Club Sport neomatik Worldtimer, NOMOS debuts a new automatic calibre: the DUW 3202. Here, the 24 time zones are denoted with city codes on the outer ring, and time differences can be seen on the edge of the main dial. The 24-hour display at 3 o'clock shows the time back home, with day and night marked in contrasting colors. With the push of a button, you can effortlessly travel through time.
NOMOS offers two classic versions that will join the brand’s staple collection: one in a crowd-pleasing blue, plus one in sleek silver with subtle blue and red accents.
In addition, we get six limited edition variations in a rainbow of hues inspired by different terrains from around the globe.
You can choose from more neutral-toned options like the Volcano with its dark gray dial or the subdued turquoise of the Glacier variant.
No matter which model you prefer (limited or non-limited), the Club Sport neomatik Worldtimer features a highly wearable build with each rendered in stainless steel, from the case to the integrated bracelet. The cases measure a comfortable 40mm and are only 9.9mm thick, thanks to the slim (4.8mm thick) calibre DUW 3202.
The Details
Each of the eight different versions of the new Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer is priced at $4,720 and available today, with the silver and blue staple colorways joining the brand’s catalog without production limits, while the special editions are limited to 175 pieces each.
Every model in this collection can be viewed and purchased at the NOMOS Lounge in New York City. To schedule your appointment, use the booking tool right here. For additional information, you can visit the NOMOS Glashütte website.
