Tissot Supersport NBA Special Edition

Space Jam: The Tissot Supersport NBA Special Edition

The brand has signed global partnerships with the NBA, WNBA, and NBA G League, and if a mega-deal like that doesn’t call for a new watch, we don’t know what does.

In case you were too wrapped up in all the Super Bowl brouhaha to see notice, b-ball’s global impact on the cultural zeitgeist has been growing by leaps and bounds this year. Throughout the 2024-2025 NBA season, Sotheby’s is hosting a series of online auctions featuring game-worn jerseys.

At the end of January, the San Antonio Spurs and the Indiana Pacers played two regular-season games in Paris, France. The WNBA also announced it is expanding from 12 teams to 15 over the next two seasons, with the first international team landing in Toronto by 2026.

Likewise, Tissot, the NBA’s Official Timekeeper since 2015, is expanding its marketing and merchandising ties to the sport. Case-in-point: In January, the brand announced that it was expanding its partnerships with the NBA, WNBA, and NBA G League. Then, on February 11th, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Swiss watchmaker Tissot announced a renewed partnership.

This is all good news for the game and collectors.

Love & Basketball

As the rabid news coverage of TAG Heuer’s return to Formula 1 as Official Timekeeper proves, partnering with professional sport is a big deal. In Tissot’s case, not only does it boost brand recognition, but it’s also a boon for basketball.

For example, as the NBA’s Official Timekeeper, the watchmaker has introduced innovative technologies, like the redesigned, state-of-the-art shot clock and timing system. Instead of the traditional square shape, the 2025 clock has a round design inspired by Tissot’s watchmaking heritage.

To make games livelier, the 2025 clock includes full RGB LED light strips, which allow the redesigned shot clock to illuminate with any color rather than just the standard red/amber previously used, thus making advanced features, such as an integrated green coaches’ challenge signal and a modernized signaling distribution system, possible.

Meanwhile, off the court, Tissot celebrated this mega-partnership by revealing the 2025 Supersport NBA Special Edition timepiece.

Merch Madness

This special edition is a visual love letter to the sport and its fans, with several thoughtful details included in the design. First, its 45mm black PVD-coated stainless steel case features a bezel inspired by the NBA’s 24-second shot clock.

The dial is also decorated with a dot pattern that recalls the texture of a basketball ball. A gradient from dark gray to black creates an optical illusion of three-dimensional roundness.

Of course, a miniaturized version of the NBA’s iconic Jerry West logo adorns the second hand. Meanwhile, flashes of red and blue appear on the dial and tri-material (rubber, synthetic materials, and leather) bracelet. Finally, the caseback is etched with the NBA logo and the home cities of every team in the league.

Fortunately, this design is subtle enough to sport when you’re not watching the game.
