In the world of watch communities, there are perhaps no stronger bonds than the ones between Panerai enthusiasts. What started as an online community in early 2000 for lovers of the then relatively obscure Italian dive watch brand has blossomed into a global online and offline network of Paneristis.

Over my decade-long journey as a collector, I've had the privilege of meeting a few of Paneristi ranks. These passionate men and women represent everything good about watch collecting. Their passion and laser-focused enthusiasm for the Florentine brand is unrivaled. Throughout their two-decades-long unofficial partnership, Panerai and the Paneristi group have collaborated for some stunning special editions and once in a lifetime events.

Introducing The Radiomir Venti PAM2020 – 45 MM

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of Paneristi.com, Panerai has released the Radiomir Venti PAM2020. This 45mm stainless steel timepiece is the byproduct of a collaboration between Panerai’s Laboratorio di Idee team and members of the Paneristi populace.

Based on the Radiomir platform, this manually-wound 100-meter dive watch is a fitting tribute to 20 years of the Paneristi community. Inspired by early Radiomirs from the 1930s, the new Radiomir Venti PAM2020 sports a vintage aesthetic with a brown sunburst sandwich dial assembled with beige Super-Luminova material, which glows green. The dial boasts the Paneristi logo at 6 o'clock along with an inscription of '2000 – 2020' for the group's 20th anniversary.

In another nod to vintage Radiomirs, Panerai has chosen to use gold-colored sword-style hour and minute hands. The 45mm cushion case is produced from 316L steel and sports an "aged patina effect," according to the brand. You'll also find the words 'VENTI' engraved between the lower wire lugs at 6 o'clock.

The watch is powered by Panerai’s P.6000 calibre, which is manually winding and boasts a three-day power reserve from its single barrel mainspring. The hacking movement beats at 21,600 vph and is made entirely in-house at Panerai’s Neuchâtel manufacture.

In The Metal

Remarkably, the Radiomir Venti – 45 MM feels like a modern watch that has traveled back in time, then returned a more perfect version of a Radiomir. The vintage vibes echoing throughout this timepiece lend a subtle nod to Panerai's origins while celebrating the future of this renowned collector group and the love its members have for the brand.

Experiencing the timepiece in the metal did conjure emotions of yesteryear. Its cushion-shaped case with smooth curves sits nicely on the wrist. The sloped wire lugs and soft suede strap provide welcome comfort. And the watch felt robust yet minimalistic at the same time.

Ask any diver, and they will tell you that readability is one of the critical elements required for underwater use, and the Radiomir Venti PAM2020 has legibility in spades. The large Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock have a depth to them that invites the wearer to stare deeply in even the most casual settings.

Overall, our time with the Radiomir Venti PAM2020 was enjoyable. The piece wears well and easily pairs with casual and formal wear. While I’m not a card-carrying member of the Paneristi, I can only guess that its members will love this new limited edition from Panerai.

Pricing And Availability

The watch comes on a beige calfskin leather strap with contrasting white stitching and a branded ‘OP’ (Officine Panerai) logo. The Panerai Radiomir Venti – 45 MM is limited to 1,020 pieces worldwide and is priced at $6,500.
