WEMPE opened its Fifth Avenue flagship boutique in 1980, instantly becoming a top destination for watch and jewelry lovers seeking out the finest luxury watches and spectacular jewels. To mark this important milestone, WEMPE called upon its partner and close friend Chopard to create a special anniversary limited edition, as they had done when the boutique first opened 40 years ago.

Two Family-Run Businesses Celebrate Together

"When it came time to deciding how we would celebrate our milestone anniversary, Chopard was a natural partner," said Ruediger Albers, US President of WEMPE. "The Maison has been a part of our New York journey from the very beginning and this new Alpine Eagle Wempe 5th Ave Edition timepiece really brings us full circle. It’s also just a great looking watch.”

Three Generations Of The Scheufele Family

The Chopard Alpine Eagle was first unveiled in 2019. The idea came from Karl-Fritz Scheufele, the son of Chopard’s Co-President, Karl-Friedrich. During one of the young man’s visits to the manufacture, he stumbled across designs of the brand’s St. Moritz model that his father created back in 1980, the very same year that WEMPE opened its Fifth Avenue boutique.

Karl-Fritz loved the design and suggested to his father that they should recreate the collection, but Karl-Friedrich wasn’t convinced. So the youngest Scheufele spoke to his grandfather about the idea, and together they managed to persuade Karl-Friedrich to relaunch this iconic sport-chic collection.

Chopard Alpine Eagle Wempe 5th Ave Edition

The Chopard Alpine Eagle Wempe 5th Ave Edition comes in a 41mm case with an integrated bracelet, both of which are made from Chopard’s ultra-resistant, light-reflecting, and hypoallergenic Lucent Steel A223, which took four years of research and development to create.

Unique to this model is a Vals gray dial that, like the other Alpine Eagle models, reproduces the pattern of the alpine eagle’s eye. The dial of this special edition is also adorned with blued Roman numerals, indices, and hands that are enhanced with Super-LumiNova Grade X1 for enhanced visibility at night. The timepiece is powered by the brand’s 01.01-C manufacture, automatic, COSC-certified movement, which has a power reserve of 60 hours.

Longstanding Partners And Friends

“We are honored to partner with WEMPE as they celebrate this incredible occasion,” said Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Co-President of Chopard, in a press release. “The Scheufele and Wempe families have been partners as well as close friends for decades. The WEMPE Fifth Avenue flagship is a destination for serious watch connoisseurs, and for the last 40 years, their New York team has been offering clients the world’s best timepieces. Together with Kim-Eva Wempe, we had the idea to create a commemorative limited-edition watch, to celebrate this important anniversary - a timepiece that truly represents the spirit and savoir-faire of our family business and expresses the excellence of both companies.”
