VICENTERRA GMT 3 T2

After the GMT-3, VicenTerra releases its Luna

Independent manufactures still have a say. From Earth to Moon: VicenTerra’s adventure will thrill the watchmaking world at a time when industry news is filled with the competition among the big groups.

The mind of Vincent Plomb navigates constantly between the Jura, where he lives, and… the moon! He has already emulated Abraham-Louis Breguet with a third-millennium version of the subscription system, and is now at it again. His new Luna is available by pre-purchase only. The future watch can be seen thanks to computer-generated images.  A 3D view is also possible, since the Luna is the successor to the GMT 3, VincenTerra’s first timepiece. Its success launched the brand in the Swiss Jura, a fact the company is proud of.

A native of the Jura Mountains, Vincent Plomb started his company from scratch, but with the kind of determination that can move mountains. And we all know that people from the Jura are nothing if not determined. The one hundred buyers of his first watch – which, with its small mobile Earth, resembles a mini planetarium – will never regret their decision. After all, they now have an individually-numbered collectible straight from the manufacture on their wrist or in a safe. This timepiece has made the grade, and at a price that is a third of what it would have been if sold from a display case or by a renowned brand. Undoubtedly, these timepieces’ value will increase and, as we can already see, especially since it is part and parcel of a rather fascinating bit of human and entrepreneurial history.

Space complication: a trademark

The Luna, a genuine horological star, displays two inseparable celestial bodies, namely Earth and Moon, with stunningly mature esthetics. The Earth, already included in the brand’s name, is the core satellite here. With its GMT 3 and its GMT 3 Volume 2, the promising young brand has climbed aboard the trend set by major brands of paying tribute to the planets.

The spatial complications the brand has come up with continue to surprise: at 7 o’clock, the rotating moon shows its phases, while at 5 o’clock, a miniature earth in blue shows its sun-turned side. The sun is at 12 o’clock, i.e., at the top of the case, which itself takes the tonneau form to new heights. At night, the sun turns into a star-spangled sky. This trio of playful animations comes with a large date. None of these complications clutter the deep black dial which owes its elegance and amazing readability to a classical design spiced up by a touch of anti-conformism.

The voice of the independent watchmakers is inspiring. Hearing it puts a smile on the face of the entire sector, in spite of what the financial heavies listed on the stock exchange might think. It is very rare that a small watchmaking brand’s DNA should combine esthetics and technique with so much poetry. Collectors on Earth, take note, this watch from the Jura is very real and neither a UFO, nor a shooting star.
