Baselworld 2013: Spirit Of Style - The Jacob & Co. Ghost

One of the most iconic of all watches for Jacob & Co. is the famous Five Time Zones watch, which has had a starring role in the Jacob & Co. collection of luxury timepieces for over a decade.

Now, Jacob & Co. introduces the latest twist in the tale of the Five Time Zones Complication: the high tech, high style Ghost, which uses the latest innovations in electronics to create a dramatic and fascinating display of time around the world.

The Ghost collection of timepieces features a high precision quartz oscillator, which serves up a display of five different time zones via a LCD screen "on demand" when the watch is activated. Twenty cities around the world can be chosen for four of the five windows, while the fifth can be set to a local time of the user's choosing.

The display can show the time in a variety of colors as well, including red, orange, yellow, green, purple, white, and a spectral blue that fits the name of the Ghost watch to a T. The light show put on by the Ghost takes place in an unusual arena – the Ghost has a pentagonal case, centered on the Jacob & Co. logo, which is also illuminated when the time function's activated. The display is mesmerizing, and the look of the watch can change to suit the wearer's mood as well, thanks to the interchangeable bezel which is offered in a variety of styles, including black PVD or rose gold with diamonds, or a high‐stealth factor carbon fiber.

Designed as a dramatic accent to the personal style of today's jet‐setting citizens of the world, the Ghost is as easy to wear and use as it is spectacularly different. There are three distinct ways of setting the watch –it can be set manually, of course, but it will also, if desired, automatically synchronize with the atomic clock regulated Internet time signal when attached to a Mac or PC via USB cable. And –most fitting for a world traveler's watch –it has an internal GPS receiver which will, on demand (to avoid excessive power drain) lock onto the global GPS satellite network and synchronize itself to the atomic clock controlled GPS network.

The Ghost also features automatic adjustment for daylight saving time, as well as for the leap year (day, date, month, and remaining power reserve for the battery can be displayed as well.). To keep up with the high energy demands of the display, the high performance lithium battery can be conveniently recharged via USP cable, and despite the complex case geometry the Ghost is water resistant to 30 meters.

Colorful, visually striking, and dramatically different, the Jacob & Co. Ghost is a bold re‐imagining of the classic Five Time Zone complication for which Jacob & Co. is so justly famed.
