PORTUGUESE HAND-WOUND SPECIAL EDITION “REVOLUTION 10TH ANNIVERSARY”
REVOLUTION magazine, an established and leading watch publication in the world of horology, celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2015. To mark this milestone and to celebrate the longstanding partnership between IWC Schaffhausen and REVOLUTION, 10 pieces of a limited-edition Portuguese Hand-wound Special Edition “REVOLUTION 10th Anniversary” (IW544001) were created by the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer.
The Portuguese Hand-wound Edition “REVOLUTION 10th Anniversary” is a special edition of the Portuguese Jubilee, a classically beautiful timepiece which was produced in 1993 to commemorate the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer’s 125th anniversary. The Portuguese Jubilee was an homage to the first original Portuguese watches that were created in the 1930s. With its limited availability, the Portuguese Jubilee is one of the most iconic and collectible timepieces of the 20th century.
Each piece of the Portuguese Hand-wound Special Edition “REVOLUTION 10th Anniversary” is identical to the original Jubilee edition, aside from the IWC calibre 92800, which is a variation of the original IWC calibre 982. The IWC calibre 92800 is a rare hand-wound movement that is produced in very limited quantities each year by IWC and has never before been used in an IWC timepiece. Every piece features a special engraving of “REVOLUTION 10th Anniversary” on the ratchet wheel, which can be admired through the see-through sapphire glass back. The case, made of 18-carat red gold, is combined with a light brown alligator leather strap, a silver-plated dial and red-gold numerals, hands and hour indices, retaining the classic appeal of the legendary original Portuguese first manufactured in the 1930s.
“The Portuguese Jubilee is a contemporary witness to IWC’s Portuguese family of watches, which has been in existence since 1939. It builds a bridge between the past and the present, and adds a chapter to the story of this illustrious watch family, making the special edition a fitting model to commemorate the 10th anniversary, as well as the established partnership and friendship between IWC and REVOLUTION,” said Mr. Matthieu Dupont, Managing Director of IWC South East Asia.
A unique piece of the Portuguese Hand-wound Special Edition “REVOLUTION 10th Anniversary” will be put up for auction by IWC Schaffhausen in early 2015. All sale proceeds from this auction piece will benefit Operation Smile, an international medical initiative that seeks to provide free surgery to correct cleft-lip and cleft-palate facial deformities in children around the world.
