Fun With Fonts: Typography’s New Maximalism
Naissance d’une Montre 3
Naissance d’une Montre 3 is a six-year horological heritage project celebrating traditional craftsmanship and the legacy of Ferdinand Berthoud. Created by more than 80 artisans and specialists from Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud and Chopard, the timepiece was entirely handcrafted without digital assistance, inspired by Berthoud’s Astronomical Pocket Watch No. 3.
Its movement combines a constant-force fusee-and-chain transmission with a temperature-compensated bimetallic balance, featuring an open structure that reveals its intricate mechanics. Housed in a specially designed 44 mm case, each component reflects exceptional precision and traditional watchmaking expertise.
Limited to 11 chronometers, the project represents the culmination of 11,000 hours of work. The first stainless-steel example sold for CHF 1.27 million in November 2025, while the remaining ten ethical-gold editions are scheduled for production from 2026, continuing this remarkable collaboration.
