Omega Speedmaster Effect: Three Collectors, Three Distinct Personalities
Tonda 1950 Tourbillon Set
Inspired by the theme of 07:08.
Created from titanium, the extra-thin tourbillon cage on the Tonda 1950 Tourbillon is extremely lightweight (0.255g).
The first Haute Horlogerie model in this collection, the Tonda 1950 Tourbillon is inspired by Parmigiani Fleurier’s signature codes, giving these a contemporary reinterpretation.
In a nod to the founder of Parmigiani Fleurier, who was born at exactly this time in the Val-de-Travers in Switzerland, the aesthetics of the piece are governed by the theme of 07.08. The complication is placed to the left of centre, just after the 7 o’clock index, while the tourbillon’s orientation is determined by an angle corresponding to 07:08, and highlighted by a red applique around the edge of the seconds.
Parmigiani Fleurier has created an extra-thin “flying” tourbillon, whose cage is suspended on a single lower support. Another special feature is that it is made from titanium, a flammable material which is complex to machine at such small dimensions, but which lends it an unprecedented lightness.
The decoration on the movement bridges also follows an oblique pattern formed of a series of Côtes de Genève. Their design, which follows a circular arc, added an extra degree of difficulty. They take the form of a wave, reflecting the oscillations of the tourbillon which spread through the movement. This circular arc decoration requires a recalibration for each new facet of the Côtes de Genève, and leaves no room for any error whatsoever.
