Omega Speedmaster Effect: Three Collectors, Three Distinct Personalities
Spindrift 2: against the ocean clock!
A truly high-performance machine, born for victory, maxi-trimaran Spindrift 2 has left her home port at Trinité-sur-Mer in order to attempt the most important ocean speed records by team this summer: firstly crossing the North Atlantic and the 24-hour record, and then round the world from next year.
Led by 14 crew members including businesswoman and accomplished athlete, Dona Bertarelli, and experienced sailor Yann Guichard, Spindrift 2 has but one adversary: the weather! The record she needs to beat: 3 days, 15 hours, 25 minutes and 48 seconds between the Ambrose lighthouse (New York) and Lizard Point (GB). A crossing that requires an average of 32.94 knots, or 61km/h. Quite a bit faster than an ocean liner!
Moored at Newport Bay, just a few hundred yards from the legendary New York Yacht Club, Spindrift 2’s crew will patiently wait for a powerful low-pressure system from the west to develop in the northern United States. When this occurs, the maxi-trimaran will set sail and attempt to cross the Atlantic ahead of this, thus benefiting from a relatively flat sea with the advantage of the powerful wind of the low-pressure system.
