TAG Heuer Ambassador Nelson Piquet Jr. Is the first inaugural Formula E champion!

It is the first time, a Chinese team, NEXTEV TCR (also sponsored by TAG Heuer) has produced the champion in an FIA series.

Amazing finish!!! TAG Heuer, founding partner and official timekeeper of the new FIA Formula E Championship, the world’s first fully electric motor racing series, congratulates TAG Heuer ambassador Nelson Piquet Jr., yesterday crowned World Champion of inaugural FIA Formula E season and as well as the China Team also sponsored by TAG Heuer for the victory! An epic final ePrix in London, with Piquet finishing 7th, allowing him to get the first inaugural FIA Formula E World Champion title, only 1 point ahead from Vice-Champion Sebastien Buemi.

During this last ePrix, Piquet showed that he doesn't crack under pressure, coming back from the 16th place. He drove in a very determined fashion from start to finish, making up a lot of places, thanks to a aggressive strategy: his courage was rewarded with 7th place, enough for him to triumph in the title fight, which also means that, for the first time, a Chinese team, NEXTEV TCR (also sponsored by TAG Heuer) has produced the champion in an FIA series.

The Brazilian took the title at the end of an incredible day, with the excitement building as everyone was left holding their breath until the final lap and then some. His co-citizen and also TAG Heuer ambassador Bruno Senna also proved his skills by nicely protecting his 4th place against Buemi, thus depriving him of the title. Over 25,000 spectators packed the grandstands and the eVillage, bringing the total number of people through the gates over the duration of the event from Friday to Sunday, to around the 60,000 mark.
