How a Solid Gold Oris Hopes to ‘Raise the Reef’ at Charity Gala
After a COVID-19 Delay, Oris to Auction the last remaining Carysfort Reef Limited Edition
Oris is no stranger to working towards a good cause. Through projects like the Oris Upcycle and its Change for the Better Days – the brand continuously supports efforts to save the environment with a clear soft spot for ocean conservation. So how does a solid gold dive watch fit into this picture?
One of Oris’ longest partnerships has been with the Coral Restoration Foundation - a partnership which began almost a decade ago. The CRF is the largest reef restoration initiative in the world and has been working tirelessly since 2014 on rebuilding the Carysfort Reef in Florida.
Since then, they have replanted over 30,000 new corals in the reef – primarily funded by private donations and public grants. In 2020, Oris launched the solid gold Carysfort Reef Limited Edition of 50 pieces as the second watch done in collaboration with the CRF to raise funds and awareness for their project.
Originally, Oris donated three examples of the watch to auction, but COVID had other plans and the auction of Limited Edition #02/50 had to be shelved. After a two-year hiatus, the CRF’s "Raise the Reef" Charity Gala has been rescheduled, and with every available watch now spoken for, this is the last chance to get your hands on the only solid gold Oris Aquis model ever produced.
V.J. Geronimo, CEO of Oris North America remarked, “Before the pandemic, we saw huge anticipation and results for any watches we donated to the Raise the Reef gala, and I expect this special piece will draw similar interest” - which is excellent news as all the proceeds will be going to further their restoration efforts.
While we previously covered the January 2020 launch of the Oris Carysfort Reef Gold Limited Edition, the ability to purchase the last remaining Oris Carysfort Reef Limited Edition AND make a direct contribution to the preservation of our coral reefs always merits our attention. V.J. said it best: “This year’s gala has the potential to be one of the best yet.”
