Hublot: 2016 version of the iconic Big Bang Ferrari chronograph

Hublot, Ferrari's official partner since 2012, updates its iconic Big Bang Ferrari chronograph with a new-look version that's even sportier, even more exclusive and even more... Ferrari!

Hublot has been the official partner of Ferrari since 2012 in a worldwide collaboration that has found expression in an exclusive collection of watches struck with the legendary Cavallino Rampante. The partnership also embraces the sporting activities of the Italian manufacturer, with Hublot's Nyon-based manufacture being named Official Timekeeper of the Scuderia Ferrari and the Ferrari Challenge. The watchmaking brand is closely involved in all the key events organised by Ferrari throughout the world.

'Each new editionepitomizes the eternal quest for innovation, excellence and performance that shapes the combined destinies of the two manufacturers',reads the press release. And sure enough, like Ferrari with its own exclusive sports models, Hublot has just restyled its iconic Big Bang Ferrari chronograph, the first lovechild of the partnership. The new design has given a brand new identity to the collection. Visually, it stands out from other versions of the chronograph created in 2005 by being imbued with a style and character all of its own.

The watch has retained its 45 mm diameter, while the styling has evolved slightly with the new bevel sporting a cut-out framing six H-shaped screws in black PVD titanium - H for Hublot. The whole is reminiscent of the shape of the manettino on the GTC4Lusso steering wheel.

The case middles have also undergone some changes. On the crown, a red trim recalling the signature groove on the rear-end of the LaFerrari Aperta runs through the two rectangular chronograph pushpieces in microblasted black PVD coated titanium. These are fixed to a rotation axis in the manner of the floor-mounted accelerator pedal on the Ferrari. On the other side, the fine grooves are reminiscent of the V12 cylinder head covers on the F12 TDF picked out in the Ferrari nomenclature in red. The crown protector is now more seamlessly integrated in a continuation of the case, thereby creating a more fluid, aerodynamic design. This is a reference to the design of the Turbo Performance Engineer data display resplendent in the centre of the dashboard on the California T. The case back, echoing the cut-out motifs on the bezel, is engraved with the inscription "Ferrari - Limited Edition" and is individually numbered.

The new Big Bang Ferrari again sports the quick-change system for choice of straps, which are available in black rubber and alcantara, picked out in red topstitching, or in black Schedoni leather in a touch echoing the rubber-lined Ferrari interior.

Encased within an anti-reflective sapphire crystal on both sides, the sapphire dial presents an aesthetic face to the world by mimicking the dashboard on Ferrari's 488 GTB. The minute counter positioned at 3 o'clock is an instant reminder of the rev counter on the same supercar. The yellow date aperture within the minute counter takes its inspiration from the gears engaged indicator facing the driver on the dash. The small seconds counter is a nod to Ferrari's iconic star-shaped wheel rim spokes, the same design being found on the circular oscillating weight visible through the sapphire crystal. The Cavallino Rampante, which has adorned every Big Bang Ferrari since 2012, is now visible at 6 o'clock just above the movement.

The restyling continues with the luminescent minute and hour hands and indices, which now follow the contours of the chapter ring. The skeletonized dial centre offers an extensive view of the famous in-house UNICO movement.

This new version has retained the same high-end motorization as its predecessor, entirely designed, crafted and assembled by Hublot. Ensuring the precision and dependability of the timekeeper, the famous chronograph with flyback function is fitted with a column wheel visible dial-side. The bottom-plate, bridges and oscillating weight are all coated in black PVD and are open to view through the transparent sapphire crystal back and dial. The heart of the movement beats at 28800 vibrations an hour and offers a power reserve of 72 hours.
