DOXA Enters The World Of Carbon With The New SUB 300 Aqua Lung US Dive

It's been 53 years since DOXA launched the SUB 300, the first industrial-grade dive watch available to the public. Today, the brand takes the concept into the 21st century!

For Americans, the legend of Jacques-Yves Cousteau is one of underwater exploration and aquatic innovation. As the co-inventor of the Aqua Lung underwater breathing system, Cousteau was able to take the hobby of scuba diving to new depths. Swiss brand DOXA enjoyed a long relationship with Cousteau, which dates back to the 1960s.

DOXA in the United States

Through his American company, US Divers, Cousteau secured the rights to become the exclusive distributor of DOXA watches. This partnership went far beyond the world of watchmaking. Cousteau was able to bring forth innovations discovered during his time working on the Aqua Lung breathing system and apply them to DOXA’s collections.

Enter the SUB 300 diver. Launched in 1967, this purpose-built dive watch from DOXA set the brand on a new path. As part of his agreement with DOXA, Cousteau’s US Divers company distributed the SUB 300 with a distinctive Aqua Lung dive tank logo on the dial. This model became so synonymous with DOXA that the brand has released a plethora of variants over the last 50 years.

With the introduction of the DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung US Divers, the brand re-confirms its commitment to Aqua Lung via an official partnership agreement.

I am delighted to announce today that we have formalized our partnership with Aqua Lung, with whom we share a long history and the same values: innovation, quality, and customer service Jan Edöcs, CEO of DOXA Watches

Jan Edöcs, CEO of DOXA Watches, added: “DOXA has been experiencing an unprecedented revival over the past 12 months. The brand's unique history, the quality of our watches and our ability today to innovate and project ourselves into the future while staying true to our DNA are the key ingredients of a strategy that remains faithful to the principle established in 1889 by Georges Ducommun: to design and produce watches of high technical quality that are reliable and affordable. We are very proud of our heritage, and particularly happy to experience a success today – the fruit of passionate work – that exceeds all our expectations.

In presenting the SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung US Divers, I am delighted to announce today that we have formalized our partnership with Aqua Lung, with whom we share a long history and the same values: innovation, quality and customer service.

With this collaboration, we again have a perfect combination of the world of diving with that of technical and reliable watchmaking. We look forward to working together with the Aqua Lung team, with the excellent understanding that we have enjoyed since we began our talks.”

A Closer Look At The DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung US Divers

For the first time, DOXA enters the world of carbon. The new DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung US Divers is encased in an ultra-light 42.5mm forged carbon case. At just 87 grams (3.06 ounces), this new addition to the SUB 300 collection may be the lightest DOXA diver ever produced.

With a striking jet black motif, the DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung US Divers is remarkably modern while maintaining a clear lineage to its predecessors. Furthermore, the brand has taken its use of forged carbon and applied this innovative material to not only the case but the dial and bezel—all of this at a sub-$5,000 price point.

Regardless of the price and materials, perhaps what I find most impressive about this new limited edition is the legibility. Set against the black forged carbon dial and bezel, are bright white Super-LumiNova coated indices and 12 o'clock pip. Coupled with yellow accents on the outer ring (measuring diving depth), overall, the DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung US Divers has remarkable contrast and legibility.

The look is completed with the iconic Aqua Lung ‘dive tank and regulator’ logo at the 7 o’clock position on the dial. The black titanium screw-down caseback is emblazoned with a dive boat and the word ‘DOXA’ beneath. The watch comes fitted to a soft leather strap with black PVD coated folding clasp.

Like all SUB 300 models, the watch is pressure tested to a depth of 300 meters (approx. 984 feet). The DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung US Divers is powered by an ETA 2824-2 automatic movement, which boasts a power reserve of 42 hours.

Pricing and availability

This watch screams for the sea and tempts the wearer to test his or her limits. Limited to just 300 pieces and available today on DOXA’s e-commerce site (HERE). The DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung US Divers is priced at CHF 4,790.

Lastly, visitors to DOXA’s website can experience an immersive experience into the brand’s diving DNA. From Jacques-Yves Cousteau to Clive Cussler, DOXA certainly has a story to tell, and with their latest release, it would appear the brand is entering the 21st century full of vigor and enthusiasm.
