A Closer Look At The Sought After TAG Heuer Monaco Box Set

This box set of five limited-edition Monacos is a unique opportunity to acquire the pieces made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Monaco.

2019 is the year of the TAG Heuer Monaco! The iconic square cased collection was born in 1969 and to celebrate its half-century of existence, TAG Heuer has released not one, but five separate limited edition Monacos. Each piece is made to commemorate a decade of Monaco.

To cap off this year-long celebration of Monaco, TAG Heuer released a limited number of box sets that are available on the brand’s e-commerce site. The collection includes all five limited edition Monacos, the 1969-1979, 1979-1989, 1989-1999, 1999-2009, and finally the 2009-2019 edition. While 169 pieces were made of each limited edition, the individual watches are all sold out. The Monaco Box Set is now the only way to acquire these pieces.

The legend of Monaco

When the first TAG Heuer Monaco was released in 1969, the sport of Formula One hadn't begun its meteoric rise to become one of the most popular sports in the world. Lotus-BRM driver Graham Hill won that year's Monaco Grand Prix. The win capped the last of Hill’s five Monaco Grand Prix victories. The timing clock which tracked lap speeds in 1969? A HEUER stopwatch.

While the TAG Heuer Monaco has undergone a variety of changes over the year, the basic premise and square case shape has remained. And with the Monaco Limited Edition Set, collectors get not one, but FIVE variants of Monaco. This is a unique opportunity to own one of the last box sets since all of the single limited edition pieces have been sold out.

Almost Sold Out

TAG Heuer’s US e-commerce site is the only place to acquire the Monaco Limited Edition Set. The box set will set you back $39,950 USD, but considering you get the five now sold out Monacos and a special presentation case, it's a compelling buy.
