The Unlikely Watch Collector: Victoria Beckham

When it comes to timepieces, Posh knows what she wants, what she really, really wants.

We like nothing better than some binge-streaming during the winter months. One of Netflix’s most bingeable programs is the docuseries “Beckham,” which is ostensibly centered on the legendary footballer but is really the love story of David and his wife, Victoria, with a bit of soccer gossip thrown in for good measure.

Sure, the series was produced by the power couple, so it never gets that (posh) spicy, but as watch enthusiasts, we were delighted to see so many timepieces playing strong supporting roles. And since, as a Tudor ambassador, David Beckham already gets a lot of attention paid to his wrists, we wanted to shine a light on Victoria’s horological tastes.

Let’s take a look at her collection.

Two Becomes One

Anyone born in the 20th century is aware of the pop cultural impact of Posh and Becks. Victoria Adams was a member of the Spice Girls – the best-selling British pop act since the Beatles and the quartet that popularized “Girl Power” after their hit debut single “Wannabe” in 1996.

The late ‘90s was also the golden era of David Beckham, a footballer so famous that his signature move served as the title of the hit movie Bend It Like Beckham in 2002.

So, keeping their budding romance hidden from the paparazzi was a bit of a challenge. However, the press finally figured it out when, in 1997, they spotted David and Victoria wearing matching his-and-hers Cartier Tank Française watches.

In keeping with the horological theme of their romance, in 1998, the couple then announced their upcoming nuptials with engagement watches instead of rings. In this case, a pair of Rolex Yacht-Masters.

Going Solo

While the Beckhams have been married since 1999, Victorian ultimately split from the Spice Girls in 2018 when it was announced she would not be joining the group on their second reunion tour the following year.

But even before her official split from the group, Victoria was forging a second career as a fashion designer. She was even awarded Designer Brand of the Year at the 2014 British Fashion Awards and eventually launched Victoria Beckham Beauty in 2019.

Dedicated followers of fashion will note that Victoria’s taste in timepieces – particularly Rolexes – has also informed her design aesthetics. For instance, her winter 2023 collection includes a pair of gold-plated brass earrings that bear an uncanny resemblance to the links of the Oyster bracelet found on her 1970s Datejust with a green enamel “Stella” dial.

Victoria also helped popularize women wearing “men’s-sized” Rolexes in the aughts and 2010s as she has been frequently photographed wearing a 40mm pink gold Rolex Daytona.

Gold seems to be Victoria’s signature material because she also has a yellow gold Day-Date President rocking a champagne dial that she often wears stacked with other precious metal bangles and bracelets on her wrist.

Posh Marks

Although her hubby is loyal to Tudor, Victoria is a horological free agent. Thus, on top of the Cartiers and Rolexes, she has an impressive collection of Patek Philippe pieces, particularly from the Nautilus family.

One of her earliest known Patek’s is a yellow-gold reference 3700/1 “Jumbo” with a black and blue ribbed dial. And it’s rare because, even though this model was produced from the late ‘80s to 2006, only 1,500 pieces of this reference were ever made.

Another of her go-to Nautiluses (Nautili?) is a rose gold reference 7118/1200R with a golden brown opaline dial and a bezel set with 56 brilliant-cut diamonds. Of course, as Posh is always posh, she’s been seen wearing it out for simple holiday activities like on a Gondola ride in Venice. Insert a “Be Honest” meme here.

Her most recent acquisition seems to be the new Patek Philippe Nautilus 7118/1300R in rose gold with a bezel adorned with 68 color-gradient, baguette-cut spessartites and a dial decorated with 11 ogival-shaped cognac-colored spessartites.

Finally, sometimes, when it comes to watches, Posh can also be sporty. Fans of her Instagram account have spotted her wearing a stainless steel, blue-dialed Nautilus reference 7118/1A-001 in a few of her candid selfies.
