Unroll The Red Carpet: Watch Spotting At The 2020 Golden Globes

It’s officially the start of awards season, here are the best celebrity watch spottings of the Golden Globes.

We always enjoy a good awards show, if only for the luxury watches parading down the red carpet. This year’s Golden Globes were particularly intriguing, not only for host Ricky Gervais’ irreverent open remarks, surprising upsets (Taron Egerton edging out Leonardo DiCaprio, Eddie Murphy, and Daniel Craig for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture and 1917 winning Best Picture), and plenty of emotional speeches.

In short, there was a general, Moët-fuelled devil-may-care attitude amongst the attendees. And it extended to their fashion choices. Especially their watch picks. While we wish we had pictures of Jason Momoa stripped to his tank top and Cartier Ballon Bleu de Cartier or whatever timepiece Jay-Z was wearing (he and Beyoncé skipped the red carpet), these horological delights were the highlights of Hollywood’s big night out.

HE IS THE CHAMPION

Last year, Rami Malek took home the Golden Globe for best actor for his performance as the late Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. This year, he rocked us in this simple Saint Laurent suit and classic large model Cartier Tank Solo watch in stainless steel with a leather strap.

HOST WITH THE MOST

Who are you wearing, Ryan Seacrest? The ageless E! Online pre-show host sported a velvet tuxedo jacket and even smoother vintage gold Rolex Daytona Ref. 6263.

I SPY

Of course we knew Daniel Craig would be wearing an Omega, but the question was which Omega would he choose. This semi-vintage Speedmaster Automatic Chronometer crafted in solid rose gold, which is appropriate for such a formal occasion. But the Golden Globes are also a cheeky sort of affair, so the sporty styling of this Speedmaster gave Craig’s look just the right amount of insouciance.

ICE MAN

With the exception of the Prada bolo tie, presenters Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra went full on Bulgari. Jonas wore an Octo L'Originale Blue watch featuring 1,172 diamonds, for a total of 50.25 carats – priced at over $1 million — as well as Bulgari Serpenti rings in sapphire and tanzanite.

SHARP DRESSED MAN

Presenter Chris Evans makes corduroy look super cool. The Knives Out star wore an impeccably tailored Isaia suit with an elegant Sedna Gold Omega De Ville Tresor Co-Axial Chronometer, the first hand-wound movement to get the Master Chronometer certification.

WORTHY SUCCESSOR

Who wore it better is a favorite red carpet competion. Like Evans, Nicholas Braun, nominated for his role in HBO’s Succession, also wore an Omega De Ville Tresor Co-Axial Chronometer. Braun’s was blinged out with diamonds (a big trend on this year’s awards ceremony). We give Cousin Greg a slight edge over Evans because his transformation from onscreen geek to red carpet sex symbol was much more dramatic.

ARRESTING DEVELOPMENT

When you are the Fashion Police, you better come correct to the red carpet. Which is exactly what Brad Goreski did. Here the style cop sports a large model Cartier Tank MC watch in 18k rose gold with a leather strap.

GOOD MORNING

The up-and-coming star of Apple TV’s The Morning Show Desean Terry went for a retro vibe with a Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 XXL Large Date and Moon Phases watch. It's clear that square and rectangular cases seemed to be trending at this year's ceremony because presenter Pierce Brosnan was also spotted wearing a Vintage Girard-Perregaux 1945.

The Hollywood Foreign press handed Stellan Skarsgard a statue for Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture for TV for Chernobyl. But we also think this understated Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Classic Large Duoface Small Seconds nicely balanced out his hardware.

WEEKEND UPDATE

Saturday Night Live’s news anchor Colin Jost attended the award ceremony with his beautiful fiancée Scarlett Johansson. His TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 11 Automatic Chronograph set our hearts racing.

VINTAGE KIDMAN

Omega ambassador Nicole Kidman usually dives into the brand’s archives for red carpet pieces. The Australian actress was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama, for her role in HBO's Big Little Lies. She may have lost the award to Olivia Coleman, but she won the fashion parade for her red hot strapless gown and sublime vintage 18k gold Sapphette 18k gold cocktail watch.

SHINE LIKE A DIAMOND

During the ceremony, Ellen DeGeneres was honored with The Carol Burnett Award. This award was established in 2019 for artists who have made outstanding contributions to television on or off the screen. The daytime talk show host is also an avid watch collector and on this, her big night, she sparkled in a diamond set Patek Philippe Reference 5271 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph.
