Dubai Watch Week 2019: Everything You Need To Know

Team Watchonista is heading to Dubai, where the watch industry will unite for a moment in time.

By Watchonista

Founded in 2015 by Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, the now biennial Dubai Watch Week returns in 2019 for its fourth edition. This year’s show promises to be the biggest yet. With over 40 participating brands and some very important partners, Dubai Watch Week is set to cap off what’s been a transformative year for the watch industry. Watchonista is excited to be returning to Dubai to experience another Dubai Watch Week! Here's how you can follow what will surely be an exciting week.

This year’s theme: Innovation & Technology

The 2019 edition of Dubai Watch Week arrives with a singular purpose, “to united and grow the global watch community for the preservation and transmission of horological knowledge.” A heady task, but one which the Seddiqi family understands well. As pioneers of the Middle Eastern watch market, Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons are the perfect hosts for this discussion.

As the watch industry prepares to enter a new decade, the importance of technology has never been great. Which is why Dubai Watch Week has set this year’s theme of Innovation and Technology. Never before has technological innovation both in the watchmaking space and in the digital and social media space been more important. With a comprehensive grouping of key players in the watch industry, Dubai Watch Week should serve as a proving ground for the present and future of the industry.

Dubai Watch Week 2019 Events

Taking place at Dubai’s International Financial Centre, Dubai Watch Week is a five-day exhibition focused on horological education, awareness, and knowledge sharing. In order to achieve this, Dubai Watch Week has five key pillars which guests will be able to experience.

First is The Horology Forum, a mainstay attraction of Dubai Watch Week for every edition. These discussion panels will align under the theme of Innovation & Technology and include some of the brightest stars of our industry. We’re most looking forward to seeing Philippe Dufour, Jean-Claude Biver, Mohammed Seddiqi, and many more industry luminaries!

The beloved Creative Hub returns in 2019 and is set to host numerous sessions ranging from limited edition reveals to informal community-oriented talks. Word on the street is that there will be some great limited editions coming from the likes of Grand Seiko, Hublot, IWC, and many more!

Fancy yourself a watchmaker? Then Dubai Watch Week’s Master Classes are the place to be. This is where the tools and tricks of the trade will be applied and taught. From masterclasses with master watchmakers Antoine & Florian Preziuso to engraving lessons with Bovet, and even a lesson in Freak science with Ulysse Nardin. Dubai Watch Week’s Master Classes are always one of our favorite highlights.

Auction house Christie’s is also set to return for this year’s edition. With a dedicated ‘Auction Room’ showcase, Christie’s will be showcasing a prime selection of rare and vintage timepieces and host engaging discussions with historians and collectors. The children’s workshop will also return, this always entertaining mock auction allows kids the opportunity to participate in a watch auction.

Finally, the centerpiece of Dubai Watch Week, the Exhibition Hall. Where more than 40 brands will present their timepiece to the world. Many brands will be exhibiting novelties for the first time at Dubai Watch Week. Expect to see some innovative and interesting pieces with advanced materials and high watchmaking all under one roof.

For more information, a schedule of discussion panels and events, and a full list of exhibiting brands, visit Dubai Watch Week’s website.
