Weather Watch: The G-SHOCK “Storm Chaser” is a Luxe Limited Edition MT-G Inspired by the Elements
The striking new MTGB2000YST1 matches dynamic design with technically advanced materials.
After a chaotic year, G-SHOCK thinks you deserve a rainbow to offset all the actual and metaphorical storms. That is why, in December, Casio revealed the latest addition to its upscale MT-G lineup: the limited-edition MTGB2000YST1 “Storm Chaser.”
This super rugged wristwatch was designed for adventurers who follow severe weather to study nature’s fury. And goodness knows that G-SHOCKs are built to take on all environmental challenges.
But this timepiece is also a tribute to the untamable beauty of the extreme elements.
Mission Possible
If you’ve watched the film Twister or its sequel Twisters, you have something of the bravado that storm chasers all seem to have in spades. The pursuit is not limited to tornados, however. Many chasers track clouds, hail, lightning, and even the geomagnetic storms that create the Northern Lights.
Visually, the MTGB2000YST1 Storm Chaser’s case, formed from stacked carbon and glass fiber sheets, represents the toughness these daring folks need for their meteorological missions, capturing the electrifying essence of lightning amid storm clouds.
To make the Storm Chaser even more weather-resistant, it also comes with the G-SHOCKs tried and true Triple G Resist technology, which is specially engineered to withstand shocks, centrifugal force, and vibrations.
Still, at the core of this resilient watch is Casio’s MT-G Dual Core Guard structure, which merges a carbon fiber-reinforced resin monocoque case with the layered frame for super strength, lightweight durability, and airtightness.
Cloudbursting
This multi-layered structure – with its cool streaks against a dark base – also serves as a visual reminder of tempestuous skies, with a phosphorescent layer reminiscent of lightning flashing across a midnight sky. The resin band is also imbued with a whirlwind of hues that mimic the swirling turbulence of supercell clouds.
Even G-SHOCK’s press materials tout this timepiece’s dramatic presence. Still, the Storm Chaser’s most incredible visual is its rainbow IP bezel.
This bold color scheme is meant to recall the serenity of the sky after a storm. To do this, G-SHOCK has employed advanced masking techniques to enhance the stainless-steel bezel with blue IP coating on the upper half and silver IP below. When paired together, it creates a lovely gradient effect that makes us think of a storm’s unpredictable nature.
This new timepiece also comes equipped with features to take on the forces of nature, like Tough Solar power, a Bluetooth Smartphone link, standard-time radio wave reception (multiband 6), 200M water resistance, an LED light, a daily alarm, a countdown timer, and a 24-hour and qual time function.
The Storm Chaser is also kitted out with a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating in case you come up against the sun’s glare.
