Say what you will about limited editions with watch enthusiast groups, but they have helped forge legitimate connections between brands and consumers.

These collaborations have also resulted in some seriously innovative timepieces. One of the most interesting timepieces to result from a brand/group pairing is the just-launched H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Centre Seconds Rotating Bezel C.02 for Collective.

Members Only

Collective Horology is an exclusive, Silicon Valley born, global community of watch enthusiasts. What makes it different from other collector groups is its emphasis on offering one-of-a-kind experiences and its focus on partnership projects with manufactures. For example, last year, they collaborated on a limited-edition piece with Zenith, the Chronomaster El Primero C.01. Collective has also teamed up with independent watchmakers, pairing up with J.N. Shapiro to produce an engine-turned meteorite dial (a horological first).

These collaborations are mutually beneficial because they not only strengthen members’ bonds to the group with a members-only timepiece that is not unlike having a secret handshake, but they also foster an allegiance among members to the brands their group team up with. As H. Moser & Cie.’s CEO, Edouard Meylan, explained, “Knowing that our reputation is now extending worldwide, all the way to Silicon Valley, means a lot.” It is an often overlooked yet vitally important symbiotic relationship.

A collaboration with a manufacture like H. Moser & Cie. feels even more exclusive. The Schaffhausen-based brand doesn’t release a lot of timepieces in a year, and the pieces it does release are unique in their themes and concepts.

And the Pioneer Centre Seconds Rotating Bezel C.02 for Collective is no exception.

Happy Wanderers

At first glance, the Pioneer Centre Seconds Rotating Bezel C.02 for Collective is unmistakably H. Moser & Cie. The brand’s dials are its aesthetic signature, and this time-only model has an exceptional emerald-colored face – dubbed Collective Green – that provides a deep, shimmering intensity.

The next thing you’ll notice is the black bi-directional rotating travel bezel. The semi-fluting along the bezel edge, which correspond to the markers, is both a lovely and useful detail. Since Collective is a global community, and its leaders were interested in creating a watch for travelers, the sturdy stainless steel case is water-resistant to 12 ATM and built for adventure. The Pioneer Centre Seconds Rotating Bezel C.02 for Collective is clearly a watch with wanderlust.

The collaboration was a natural fit for the enthusiast group, as Collective Horology founders, Gabe Reilly and Asher Rapkin have always loved H. Moser’s Pioneer collection for its nonconformist and adventurous spirit. “We wanted to create a rarefied travel watch. A watch that wouldn’t be seen on the wrists of every other person at the airport. A functional tool crafted by an independent watchmaker that fundamentally filled the gaps - the missing link - between the Streamliner and the Pioneer models,” said Rapkin in a press release.

In addition to the gorgeous finish of the dial, the face also features inserts on the hands and indices filled with Globolight (an innovative ceramic-based material that contains Super-LumiNova), ensuring ultimate legibility wherever the road takes you.

And for extra assurance for the world traveler, this limited-edition timepiece is offered on a brown kudu leather strap and a steel bracelet.

Unpacked

Global citizens will also be pleased to know that Pioneer Centre Seconds Rotating Bezel C.02 for Collective is powered by is the HMC 200 self-winding calibre. A 100 percent Swiss-made movement, it was developed and produced in-house by H. Moser & Cie.

According to Collective co-founder Gabe Reilly, the community prizes such details. “We are honored to have collaborated with H. Moser. Producing in-house, hand-crafted movements, H. Moser has a rich watchmaking history and…[t]his level of quality and craftsmanship combined with an entrepreneurial spirit that believes in challenging the norm is perfectly aligned with our vision,” said Reilly in a press release.

“We were very proud when Asher and Gabe called us to create a special edition,” commented Meylan. “Both of them knew exactly what they were looking for. For a brand like us, it represents a great deal of achievement and recognition.”

If you want to get your hands on this rare beauty, membership has its privileges. The Pioneer Centre Seconds Rotating Bezel C.02 for Collective will be available exclusively to new and existing Collective members for one year only.
