Seen and Unseen: Piaget Reimagines Andy Warhol’s Camouflage in Gold and Stone

Inspired by Andy Warhol’s 1986 self-portraits, Piaget’s latest limited edition transforms camouflage into an extraordinary composition of ornamental stones, gold, and contemporary artistic expression.

There is an intriguing contradiction at the heart of camouflage: its purpose is to conceal, yet Andy Warhol turned it into something impossible to ignore. In his 1986 self-portraits, the American artist transformed a familiar military pattern into a colourful exploration of identity, visibility, and the complexities of fame.

For its second collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Piaget draws inspiration from this fascinating series, translating its graphic language into a watch that feels both sculptural and unmistakably expressive.

Following the colourful ‘Collage’ Limited Edition unveiled in 2025, the new Andy Warhol ‘Camouflage’ Limited Edition, restricted to 86 pieces, offers a different interpretation of the artist’s universe. Rather than reproducing his original artwork, Piaget deconstructs its visual elements and reimagines them through its own distinctive mastery of gold and ornamental stones.

A Dial Like No Other

At the heart of this new creation lies a dial that transforms Warhol’s camouflage pattern into a composition of colour, texture, and relief. Piaget combines sodalite and turquoise with satin-finished gold and polished rose gold, creating a striking contrast between oceanic blues, vibrant turquoise, and the warm reflections of precious metal.

Rather than reproducing Warhol’s original artwork, the Maison reinterprets its graphic language through ornamental stone marquetry. The 27 individual pieces of stone and gold form an almost architectural composition, giving the camouflage pattern a remarkable sense of depth and structure.

More than 100 hours of design, research, and craftsmanship were required to create this exceptional dial. It is a testament to Piaget’s longstanding expertise in ornamental stones and its ability to transform artistic inspiration into a distinctive expression of watchmaking

An Iconic Silhouette

The 45 mm cushion-shaped case, crafted in white gold, preserves the distinctive gadrooned profile associated with the Andy Warhol Watch. Its sculptural contours provide a restrained architectural frame for the vibrant dial, allowing the contrasting colours and textures to take centre stage. The interplay between the softly rounded silhouette and the graphic intensity of the camouflage pattern creates a compelling balance between heritage and contemporary expression.

Dauphine hands maintain a clear time display, while the manufacture 501P1 self-winding movement powers the watch. On the reverse, Warhol’s signature and the individual edition number underline the connection between the artist and the Maison, reinforcing the exclusive character of this limited edition.

The balance is particularly appealing: a recognisable design enriched by a dial that gives it an entirely new personality, where Piaget’s mastery of gold and ornamental stones meets Warhol’s unmistakable visual language.

A Shared Creative History

Warhol’s relationship with Piaget goes beyond this contemporary collaboration. A passionate watch collector, he owned seven timepieces from the Maison, including the distinctive cushion-shaped reference 15102, designed in the 1970s.

The official partnership with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, established in 2024, has allowed Piaget to explore this connection more directly. The resulting watches are not intended as literal reproductions of Warhol’s paintings, but as interpretations of the ideas, colours, and visual experiments that defined his work.

With ‘Camouflage’, the Maison explores a particularly fascinating paradox. A pattern associated with concealment becomes the centrepiece of an exceptionally expressive creation. Natural stones become graphic elements, gold provides both structure and reflection, and an iconic silhouette becomes the setting for a new artistic statement.

Limited to 86 pieces and priced at CHF 74,000, the edition pays tribute to the year Warhol created his original self-portraits, offering a compelling expression of the creative dialogue between art and watchmaking.

Ultimately, what makes this watch interesting is not simply its connection to a celebrated artist. It is Piaget’s ability to capture the spirit of his work without losing its own identity. Sometimes, the most compelling tribute is not to reproduce an image, but to discover an entirely new way of seeing it.
