On the Bubble: The New Blancpain Lady B is a Tribute to True Greatness
On the Bubble: The New Blancpain Lady B is a Tribute to True Greatness
This mod watch is a tribute to the vision of Blancpain’s former CEO Betty Fiechter – the first woman to helm a Swiss watch manufacture.
As a businessperson, Fiechter was canny enough to save the best for Blancpain. This movement was introduced in the first Ladybird Bullet in 1956 and serves as the inspiration for today’s Lady B.
This modern feat of miniaturization is still one of the smallest on the market, measuring just 19mm in diameter and 2.9 cm³ in volume. Powered by the automatic Manufacture caliber 615 (15.7mm × 3.9mm), the Blancpain Lady B continues Fiechter’s legacy of technical innovation.
It’s also a visual testament to Fiechter’s heyday. The mini mechanism sits in a spherical case that recalls the mid-century style of the Bullet; however, building such a tiny watch with this much wrist presence was a modern-day challenge.
The sphere itself is composed of two parts. The back is slightly smaller than the bezel – a detail that is only visible when viewed from above. When observed from other angles, the interplay of light and polishing makes the Lady B’s architecture that much more expressive. In fact, my first impression of the Lady B was that this timepiece was made for people who talk with their hands.
Another cool thing about this silhouette is that the Blancpain Lady B has no lugs. The pass-through that the double-tour strap loops through is machined directly into the caseback.
Final Thoughts
At this scale, the slightest gesture becomes decisive. But its polished finishes and luxe materials (stainless steel or 18K red gold) are a testament to Blancpain’s rich history in high-end watchmaking.

The bubbly case is meant to be showcased as a jewel on a double-tour calf leather strap, available in six colors: white, light beige, dark beige, burgundy, fuchsia purple, or classic blue.
