Watchonista's Ultimate Guide To The Watches Of The 2020 Oscars
From the red carpet to the afterparties, we present the best timepieces from the 2020 Academy Awards.
Bigger than the Super Bowl for watch geeks, the Academy Awards is a celebration of both film and horology, with stylish celebrities showing off some of the hottest timepieces known to humanity.
While the Oscar 2020 nominations were criticized for a lack of diversity (don’t get me started on Lupita Nyong'o not getting a nod for Us), the paparazzi captured a very wide array of brands and styles on the red carpet. Here’s a list of our favorite watches of the 2020 Academy Awards.
Good Evening America
Not everybody borrows watches to wear to the big show. Here’s noted watch guy Michael Strahan wearing his personal Rolex Everose Day-Date to the awards.
Good Fella
Living legend and nominee for The Irishman director Martin Scorsese went with another classic — a Rolex Perpetual Day-Date. You can read more about Rolex's participation at the 2020 Oscars HERE.
Golden Boy
Last year’s Best Actor winner Rami Malek went vintage with a 1993 Pasha de Cartier Collection watch in 18k yellow gold. So great to see Cartier's vintage Pasha collection getting some love!
All Star
Producers of the Academy Award-winning animated short Hair Love Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union attended a pre-show event with Wade wearing a Hublot Dwayne Wade Classic Fusion.
Perfect Fit
Nominated for Pain and Glory, actor Antonio Banderas looked good in Bulgari wearing an Octo Finissimo Automatic watch in titanium case and bracelet. You can read more about the Octo Finissimo on Bulgari's partner page HERE.
Cold Case
Frozen II star Josh Gad introduced Idina Menzel and a stage full of foreign language Elsas whilst wearing a two-tone Chopard Alpine Eagle. You can read more about the Chopard Alpine Eagle HERE.
Legend of Greyjoy
Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen rocked the red carpet in an uncomplicated tux and a minimalist Omega De Ville Prestige.
Space Force
Here’s Star Wars star and presenter Oscar Isaac flashing his Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary to the paparazzi. You can read more about this model HERE.
Midnight Hour
It’s two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali presenting best supporting actress with his diamond-studded Omega DeVille Tresor Co-Axial Master Chronometer.
Rabbit Run
Best director nominee and best adapted screenplay winner Taika Waititi paired a classic black tie and tux with a military influenced blue Panerai Luminor Due. You can learn more about the Panerai Luminor Due collection HERE.
Do the Right Thing
Famed director Spike Lee paid tribute to the late Kobe Bryant with a customized purple and gold jacket. On his wrist? An 18K Everose Rolex Root Beer GMT. You can read our in-depth collector's analysis of the two-tone version of this watch HERE.
Marshall Law
Two totally random things. It took 17 years, but Eminem finally performed “Lose Yourself” at the 2020 Oscars. He also double-wristed what looks like a customized Rolex President with diamond-encrusted aftermarket bracelet.
A Portable Party
Presenter Mindy Kaling wore this dazzling, diamond-encrusted Audemars Piguet Royal Oak to the Academy Award after-parties.
A Busy Year For Watches At Awards Shows
