TAG Heuer Announces Ryan Gosling As Its Latest Ambassador And Celebrates With A Slew Of New Carreras
The Golden Globe-winning actor introduces a baker’s dozen worth of Carreras.
For his first-ever brand partnership, actor Ryan Gosling has joined TAG Heuer as a global ambassador. “Partnering with them was an easy decision, and time, in general, is just something I think a lot about now,” Gosling said in a statement. Adding: “My kids are growing up fast, so I keep an eye on the clock in a way I never used to.”
Throughout his career, which includes an impressive range of genres, including arthouse drama (Drive), musicals (La La Land), and comedy (Crazy, Stupid, Love.), Gosling commanded an impressive amount of hegemony, both onscreen and off. And this new collaboration with TAG Heuer follows suit with the actor’s handpicked photographer Pari Dukovic to shoot the colorful campaign, which features TAG Heuer’s Carrera Three Hands.
“The movie Drive represents the strongest link with who we are today, and we are excited about the creative projects we have together,” said TAG Heuer CEO Frédéric Arnault. The soft blur juxtaposed with deep saturations of color allude to the 2011 film.
“In creating these portraits, it was about creating something timeless and timely at the same time. TAG Heuer’s watches have a timeless quality to them, and that’s exactly what we wanted to do with the campaign,” added Dukovic.
Of course, fans of Gosling and the Carrera will rejoice because the 13-piece collection re-envisions the timepiece in four versions: the Carrera Day Date 41 mm, the Carrera Twin-Time Date 41mm, the Carrera Date 39mm, and the Carrera Date 29mm.
The Need for Speed
Each of the new Carreras nods to the brand’s motor racing heritage. And with clean lines and easy readability, the watches balance pragmatism and elegance. The line ranges in diameter from 29mm to 41mm, with all references offered in a stainless-steel case with the choice of black, blue, white, or silver dials, all of which feature the new Carrera logo. Since the Carrera Three Hands debut in the early 2000s, TAG has sought to make telling time a simple endeavor, and with these latest offerings, the brand succeeds.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Date 39mm and Carrera Day Date 41mm
The Carrera Date 39mm and Carrera Day Date 41mm feature a Calibre 5 automatic movement, bolder hands, a refined index integration, and a new case with refined lugs. Moreover, the new H-shaped bracelet and the brown alligator leather strap offer collectors decidedly different personality profiles.
The Carrera Date 39mm, which ranges in price from $2,700 to $2,900, is fitted with a date at 6 o’clock, whereas the Day Date 41mm, which ranges in price from $2,900 to $3,100, proffers a thinner date frame at 3 o’clock.
TAG Heuer Carrera Twin-Time Date 41mm
With the Calibre 7 automatic movement and the new H-shaped bracelet, the TAG Heuer Carrera Twin-Time 41mm, priced at $3,200, has a blue sunray-finished dial that offers bolder hour and minute hands, a refined hand tip, and a date window at 6 o’clock. Plus, it sports a new bicolor flange in silver and blue with a 24-hour scale to indicate day and night.
TAG Heuer Carrera Date 29mm
The TAG Heuer Carrera Date 29mm, powered by the Calibre 9 automatic, has a new case with refined lugs and the new H-shaped bracelet.
Inspired by the Carrera’s origins and to improve readability, the dial integrates bolder hands and refined indices that reflect more light. The 29mm size line, which ranges in price from $2,300 to $3,300, also positions the date at 6 o’clock and includes a version with diamond indices.
Final Thoughts
Throughout 2021, enthusiasts have made it known that they are seeking less bulky, more adaptable timepieces. And these updates demonstrate, once again, TAG Heuer’s renewed interest in simple yet effective but also refined design.
