Like Marvel Universe or Star Wars movies, G-Shock fans never have to wait long for a new release from their favorite Casio franchise. But some new launches are more anticipated than others. And the Japanese watchmakers created much buzz when they provided a sneak peek of their newest addition to the G-Steel collection — the GSTB100XA-1A G-Steel Connected Carbon — at COUTUREtime in Las Vegas

Why is it so hot?

While Casio has always been ahead of the game when it comes to wearable tech, the G-Shock GSTB100XA-1A G-Steel comes with a lot of cutting edge advancements. For example, it uses Bluetooth low energy (BLE) technology to network with your smart phone via the G-SHOCK connected app. BLE lets smartphone users experience richer, more interactive connections beyond the mobile handset while using less power.

Another difference between many smart watches and the GSTB100XA-1A is that even when you’re connected, you can quickly switch back to time mode at the press of a button. And it will accurately update you no matter where in the world you may be.

And because short battery life and having to carry around all kinds of charging devices is a hassle, a big advantage of the GSTB100XA-1A is that it uses solar-powered charging capabilities. And it comes with and a super LED light for maximum visibility in the dimmest of situations.

Why is it so cool?

This latest Connected model is not only a mix of wireless technologies, it is also a showpiece of an alchemy of materials. The GSTB100XA-1A comes outfitted in a black and silver colorway that features a black and blue and blue, layered band,  a multi-dimensional carbon bezel and a solid sapphire crystal. And while carbon makes for a great look,  the combination of Toray Industries’ state-of-the-art TORAYCA and NANOALLOY materials also provides extra shock resistant capabilities.

Why you want it

Did we mention that it looks great? The G-Steel line is one of the G-Shock collections designed with the gentleman in mind. It looks as good paired with a suit as it does with a more relaxed weekend casual cardigan. And with a newly slimmed down 53.8mm case size, it still has a lot of wrist presence without getting all caught up in your shirt cuffs.

The timepiece is also packed with all kinds of other cool features, including 200M water resistance and shock resistance, Neo-brite luminous hands, world time in 31 time zones and 48 cities, multiple daily alarms, and a stopwatch and countdown timer.

The GSTB100XA-1A will retail for $600 and will be available beginning in July/August 2018 at G-SHOCK retailers, the G-SHOCK Soho Store and shopcasio.com.
