A Closer Look At The Innovative New Bulova Precisionist X Collection

Ten years after launching their Precisionist collection, Bulova introduces three new ultra-accurate and eye-catching chronographs aptly named Precisionist X.

When Bulova launched its Precisionist collection ten years ago, it represented a new era of innovation for the brand — marrying distinctive architectural design, and the world’s most advanced chronograph with a continuously sweeping second hand.

It’s hard to believe that a decade has passed, particularly because the Precisionist technology and style were so ahead of the curve. But rather than rest on their laurels, Bulova is celebrating this anniversary by advancing the Precisionist aesthetic with a revolutionary new design in the new Precisionist X collection.

Shape Of Things To Come

Bulova has always embraced statement-making case shapes, dial designs, and materials. Think of the unmistakable Accutron Spaceview or the classic Oceanographer. The Precisionist X aims to be just as iconic.

“We are excited to showcase our new take on the classic Precisionist,” says Jeffrey Cohen, President of Citizen Watch America. “Throughout the new assortment, you will see the utilization of textured elements like leather, rock, smoke, and sparks that inspired the new dial designs, allowing for an extraordinary and larger than life visual aesthetic.”

All of the timepieces in the Precisionist X collection feature a new silhouette — a unique and unexpected octagonal 45x47mm case shape with the aforementioned textures and dial treatments. These finishes give the surfaces a multi-dimensional effect while the angular case lends the watch a brawny appeal.

No, this is not a minimalist watch. The dial has a lot going on as well. For example, a date window is present at 4 pm, but the date wheel is visible through a transparent section of the bottom half of the dial. Yet, these details are laid out with a certain symmetry that keeps it all coherent.

Perhaps the most interesting addition to the Precisionist X collection is that the four screws used to hold down the bezel are now incorporated into the case insert, encroaching on the edges of the curved sapphire crystal.

We Got The Beat

As the name suggests, Precisionist serves as a showcase for Bulova’s top tier, high-frequency movements. The three models in the Precisionist X collection are powered by the brand’s proprietary high-beat 262 kHz quartz movement (standard quartz uses 32 kHz). All are water-resistant to 50 meters.

The Precisionist X’s accuracy is particularly impressive because the watch itself has multiple complications. The chronograph measures both 1/10th and 1/100th of a second in the 12 o’clock subdial, and keeps time to 1/1000th of a second at 6 o’clock. This module also allows for the Precisionist’s signature sweeping second hand to move smoothly across the dial rather than in 1-second increments.

Fancy-Free

Measuring in at 44.5mm in diameter and 17.5mm in thickness, the new Precisionist X offers substantial wrist presence — not only in its size, but also in its many luxe touches. All three versions have a highly desirable integrated bracelet. Hidden lugs should keep it relatively wearable, despite its magnitude.

The flagship of this new Precisionist family is the Limited Edition. This watch is presented in gray stainless steel with an 18k yellow gold top ring insert. Limited to 100 pieces, the watch is packaged in an elegant presentation box with a numbered serial card, story booklet, and plaque.

Bulova is also unveiling two new Precisionist X Special Edition timepieces featuring top ring inserts made of gray Damascus steel, a metal most recognizable by its moiré light and dark pattern. Available in either a black IP case with a green leather strap, or a rose gold IP case with a brown leather strap, both with a deployant buckle. The Special Edition pieces are offered in a presentation box with a plaque.
