Today, renowned charity auction, Only Watch, announced the line-up of participating brands at its highly awaited 9th edition, which will take place in Geneva on Saturday, November 6th, 2021.

With a total of 53 mouth-watering lots, no fewer than 54 brands are taking part in the biennial event that has raised over 70 million Euros for the benefit of research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy since its first edition 16 years ago. So, it looks like we are set for a cracker of an auction!

What’s Past is Prologue?

This year’s auction has been one of the most hotly anticipated dates in the horological calendar, thanks mainly to the monumental success and drama of the auction last time out.

Only Watch 2019 raised more than 36 million Euros, a staggering sum representing over half the historical total generated by the charity auction. One lot, in particular, will live long in the memory: The Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300A, which set a new world record when it fetched 31 million Swiss Francs.

As impressive as that world record is, Patek Philippe wasn’t the only brand to make a splash at Only Watch 2019, F.P.Journe’s Astronomic Blue fetched CHF 1,800,000. Audemars Piguet’s Code 11.59 Tourbillon Openworked Only Watch edition went for CHF 1,000,000, while Akrivia’s Chronomètre Contemporain Only Watch edition received a winning bid of CHF 360,000, and the Tudor Black Bay Ceramic One hammered for CHF 350,000.

How the 2021 edition will pan out is anyone’s guess, but if it is anything like the last auction, then we can expect an electric atmosphere and some sensational winning bids.

The Field

Patek Philippe will return yet again this year, putting forward a complicated desk clock from 1923. The brand will be joined by other big names, including Audemars Piguet, Blancpain, Breguet, Richard Mille, Tudor, Ulysse Nardin, Chopard, and Chanel.

Also participating are around 20 independent brands such as Akrivia, Armin Strom, Cyrus Genève, H. Moser & Cie, Laurent Ferrier, MB&F, Romain Gauthier, and URWERK.

Additionally, there are eight collaborative pieces on the block, which see brands partnering with other brands, designers, artists, and even movie greats and music legends. Indeed, two of the most intriguing co-creations up for auction will be F.P.Journe’s one-off Octa made with input by The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola and Artya’s unique piece made in tandem with guitar maestro John McLaughlin.

The Pre-Game Tour

As is tradition, the Only Watch 2021 collection will begin a world tour in the weeks preceding the auction. This starts on September 22 at the Monaco Yacht Show, then moves on to Dubai (September 23-October 3), Tokyo (October 8-10), Singapore (October 15-20), and Hong Kong (October 25-28).

It will finish off in Geneva (November 4-6), with the auction held in collaboration with Christie’s on November 6 at 2:00 pm (CET) at the Four Seasons Hôtel des Bergues.
