Only Watch Announces The Date Of Its 2021 Auction

Today, the renowned charity auction announced the date for one of the most hotly anticipated events on the 2021 horological calendar.

By Watchonista

Since its inaugural edition in 2005, the Only Watch charity auction has raised over 70 million Euros for the benefit of research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. And it is arguably the momentous horological event of the year. Indeed, thanks to worldwide media attention, Only Watch’s growing community of watch collectors and connoisseurs from around the globe have been waiting with bated breath for news of the 2021 edition.

Well, there is good news! This morning, Only Watch announced that the 9th edition of its biennial charity auction is to take place in Geneva one year from today on Saturday, November 6th, 2021.

Breaking Records

The 8th edition, Only Watch 2019, raised over 36 million Euros with a single lot setting a new world record. When the gavel finally dropped on Lot 28, the final bid on the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300A was an astonishing 31 million Swiss Francs (approx. 28,980,089 Euros).

With jaw-dropping moments like this, one has to wonder: What will happen in 2021?

Only Watch 2021

It is anticipated the 2021 collection will follow the pattern of previous editions and include approximately 50 unique timepieces created specifically for the auction. And although there is no word yet on which brands will be donating watches, past brands include Audemars Piguet, Montblanc, F.P.Journe, Breguet, Richard Mille, Bovet, Tudor, and of course, Patek Philippe.

It is too soon to predict how, or even if, the global COVID-19 pandemic will impact the fall of 2021. But conditions permitting, the Only Watch 2021 collection will kick-off its traditional ten-stop world tour, beginning on September 22nd at the Monaco Yacht Show and ending with the auction on November 6th at Christie’s Geneva.

Furthermore, Only Watch made sure to reassure the watch community that the global pandemic would not derail the much-anticipated event, stating in a press release, “Whether physically and/or online, the auction will take place.”

About Only Watch

Under the Patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco and through the leadership of its founder and organizer, Luc Pettavino, Only Watch demonstrates year after year that empathy and altruism, when properly harnessed, can be an extraordinary driving force for hope.

As per every Only Watch edition, and in accordance with its founding principles, every Euro raised during the auction will be dedicated to scientific and medical research into finding a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a disorder causing progressive muscular weakness.
