Only Watch 2015: One unique watch, one unique work - Treat yourself to the Classic Fusion Only Watch Britto!

A supporter of the Only Watch charity event, organised by the “Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies” (Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophy) since 2005, Hublot is unveiling a Classic Fusion created in partnership with Brazilian artist Romero Britto.

This timepiece, created for the 6th edition of the Only Watch auction, stands apart from the other models as it is being auctioned along with the canvas that inspired it. A first!

This is a watch that embodies the full innovative capacity of the Hublot Manufacture by fusing art and crafts. The Classic Fusion Only Watch Britto combines the traditional art of enamelling with the contemporary pop art and cubism of Brazilian artist Romero Britto.

On the dial, the master dial-maker, guided by the vibrantly coloured work of art by Britto, reproduces the lines of the design at the correct scale. Then, the white gold dial is struck to prepare it for the champlevé enamelling. Finally, the enameller applies thin layers of the powder enamel to the piece, adding the 6 opaque colours from the 250 shades in his palette one by one. The paint is fixed to the dial through successive firings at a temperature of approx. 800°C. Britto's iconic designs are brought out perfectly by the meticulously applied champlevé enamel. In creating this dial, the real challenge was to transcribe in miniature all the harmony and energy of Britto's work.

The end result is this unique piece, which finely demonstrates the principle of fusion between tradition and modernity, between craftsmanship and 21st Century innovation.

From 23rd September, the Only Watch 2015 travelling exhibition of watches will complete a world tour before the auction in Geneva on Saturday 7th November. All of the money raised will be donated to fund medical research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a debilitating neuromuscular disease.

Romero Britto

The work of this Brazilian artist, painter and sculptor is influenced by the Pop Art and Cubism art movements. His iconic style makes reference to a joyful, brightly coloured universe of patterns which are infinite in their combination and variation. Now working in the Coconut Grove district in Miami, he has been collaborating with Hublot since the Brazilian World Cup, for which he created the iconic multicoloured football.
